The award - named in the memory of the former Tecumseh Chief and Windsor Spitfire captain who passed away suddenly last February - will be presented annually to a player from Essex County chosen in the OHL Priority Draft. Each recipient must show extraordinary dedication and effort to achieve excellence as a hockey player. Recipients must also demonstrate positive leadership traits on the ice as well as provide support and a positive attitude to other players.

Murphy, who played minor midget in Windsor last season, was selected in the 14^th round (278^th overall) by the Windsor Spitfires in last May's OHL Priority Draft.

Future award recipients of the annual award will be named by the Spitfires immediately following the completion of the OHL draft in May of each year.
